A fun walk on the darker side. , March 5, 2005 Reviewer: bartok13 (see more about me) from Hell... aka Phoenix Bif's sophomore album provides us with more fun songs with a dark edge. At first listen this album seems to be quite different from "I Bificus", but as you listen to it a little more you find that it's the Bif that we've come to know and love with a slightly different sound. Her songs delve into subjects such as religion, obsession, lost love, and tango shoes. With a mix like that you know you're in for a treat. The first single from the album is "I Love Myself Today". It has a rock/hip-hop feel to it that grows on you the more you listen. Then you have "Stolen Sidewalk"... if you liked "Lucky" from her first album then you will love this one. It has the same haunting feel of "Lucky", but makes you feel more of the emotion behind the song. After that you have a string of songs that will stick in your head and have you humming at work all day. All in all I would say that there are about 6 or 7 solid songs on this album with the rest filling in quite nicely. As a true and loyal fan i give bif a big high five for this cd. She shows not only her soft side, but also her hard rocker chick side. for many bAndS that is a hard thing to do. Taken with the spunk and heart from I Bificus, Purge is a full on great listen. Choking On the Truth begins the cd with a similar sound as the tracks on I Bificus, but with Tango Shoes, things get a bit different. And there's nothing bad in that. The nifty beat to Tango Shoes is followed by Dawn which mellows out a bit but doesn't let you down. I Love Myself Today is a power anthem! Was for me. Great song. Things do get a little slow with Stolen Sidewalk. Bif's lyrics always shine but with Stolen Sidewalk, they're touching in an off way. But that's what makes her music so grand. The remaining tracks continue to be great listens. Most notable are ... well, all of them. Although Leader, You Are the Master, and Hold On tend to be more favorable for me.
